Oops!

Many of you will know that I am running a little Facebook competition. Well, I’ve just learned that what I’m doing is actually against the rules. You can’t  run a competition on Facebook where people are entered into a prize drawer just for liking your page, because it means that all the people who liked your page before the competition are being entered into a raffle without their consent. Fair enough, I suppose. So, long story short, I’ll have to change how the competition is run.

It will still be linked to people liking my facebook page, but you will  have to leave a comment here on the blog to enter the competition. So far I’ve announce first, second and third prizes:

THIRD PRIZE: Three people will win a gift pack of 10 of my luxurious hand-made greeting cards. Each pack valued at at $49.50.

SECOND PRIZE: Two people will win $250.00 credit towards their print and product purchases when they have a portrait session with vividity.

FIRST PRIZE: One lucky person will win a free mini concertina album and $500.00 credit towards their print and product purchases when they have a portrait session with vividity.

GRAND PRIZE: Will be announced when I have 100 ‘likers’ on my vividity photography by Jennifer Taylor Facebook page.

BUT WAIT! Don’t go leaving comments here yet. Well, actually, it would be GREAT if you were to leave me a little love in the comments section. Go on. You know you want to. Just say “hi!”. It won’t hurt. Not one little bit.

But it won’t get you entered into the competition, either.

The competition will open up to entries once I have hit 100 likes, so keep an eye on this space.

Actually, go check out facebook, make sure you like my page there, tell all your friends about it and suggest they like it, too. And THEN watch this space.

Oh, and for those of you who are not able to come to Sydney for a shoot with me, or who are photographers yourselves, I’ll run a separate competition over on my Pompalary Blog where you can win a hand knitted or crocheted hat or scarf of your choice from my range of designs. Great for yourself, your kids, or to add to your collection of cute photo props!

And here’s a little bunch of flowers, just for you:

Oh, and please note that by entering the competition you are:

1. providing any and all information included in your entry to vividity/Jennifer Taylor, and not to Facebook,

2. acknowledging that the competition is being run by vividity/Jennifer Taylor, and not Facebook, and

3. releasing Facebook of any liability whatsoever in relation to the competition.

Look what just arrived! {vividity, Sydney child and family photographer}

I love this job! It’s like being Santa. I get to deliver beautiful goodies like this:

And here are some of the layouts inside:

I had the opportunity to photograph this baptism a while ago, but I’ve held off on blogging about the shoot until I had delivered the album. Can’t spoil the fun for my clients! I’m thrilled to bits with how this turned out. Such a great quality album, all hand stitched, and they did a fabulous job with printing the cover. So lovely! I can’t wait to do some more of these. Such a great way to display your images and be able to pass them on to your kids when they’re all grown up.

Apologies for the blur over the name on the cover. I promise all my clients that I won’t use their names (unless they ask me to!)…. I guess it’s just in-grained after years in the academic world where research participants’ names were protected more than Fort Knox. I don’t mention my own family members’ names here, either. I know it’s pretty much the done thing amongst photographers and other blog authors to talk about their children and call them by name. And I understand the warm-fuzzy feeling that’s generated for readers by sharing that level of detail. I feel like I really know some of the authors of blogs I stalk… er… read, because I am privy to all sorts of details about their lives. But I just can’t bring myself to do the same. I don’t know what my children and husband will be doing years from now. Imagine if my daughter one day becomes Prime Minister. (Good Lord! Imagine!) She probably wouldn’t want photos of her in the nicky-noo plastered all over the cover of Woman’s Day! So, I choose not to identify her by name here. You’ll see my children and husband called all sorts of things on this blog, but never by their names.

What do you think about that? I’d be interested to know how you (other blog authors) handle this decision, and why you choose to do what you do. And I’d love to hear from my readers and clients what they think about the lack of names here.

Have a happy day!

a pact with Kara – {vividity, Sydney portrait photographer}

I’ve made a pact.  With Kara Elmore. Those of you who know me well, know that I don’t make promises lightly, and once made, I do my best to keep them. Well, Kara, here you go! My boy:

We both noticed that we tend to photograph our girls more than our boys. And Kara’s boy is nine. Already. And nine’s not little anymore. My boy’s only 3. “Nearly four!” I can hear him call out in his sleep as I type. And three, nearly four, is not nearly so little as he used to be. And so we decided we both need to photograph our boys more. And Kara sent me an email that said “This weekend?” And I sent her an email that said “You’re on!” And so, here he is. My boy.

And “Lightaqueen”.

An update for clients

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am now fully booked for the remainder of this year, but I have opened up my books for next year and am now scheduling portrait sessions for late January 2011. If you’d like to talk with me about booking a session, you can reach me via the ‘contact’ page on this blog, or even better, through my website. That way you can have a bit of a browse through my galleries while you’re there!

This is a busy time of year for us all, and especially busy for us photographers, with everyone wanting everything before Christmas, so I would like to thank all my clients for their patience. You WILL get your photos as soon as humanly possible!

A little something to warm you up. (vividity: Sydney family photography)

It was a hot, sunny afternoon when I met the L family. The sort of weather you’d expect for November…. and it was only mid October. Not that we’re getting November weather now, and it actually IS November. (What’s with all the rain? And cold? I’m sitting here in my winter woollies as I type this!) I hope you enjoy these images, and that they might remind you of the Summer we might have. One day. Soon?

Remember to leave me some love (in the form of a comment or two) before you go!

Jen.

PS: I think it’s time to upgrade to a customized photo blog…. What do you think? Not sure what’s going on here with WordPress, but these images are tack sharp when I view them in photoshop! Aaagh! Any other photogs/techie people care to comment? How do you manage your photos? Do you post to another website (eg Flickr) and then link to there from you blog? Or do you upload to blog straight from your hard drive? And what size/res do you use? Optimized for web or just saved?

Another f-r-e-e-z-i-n-g day, another fabulous family – {Sydney family portrait photographer}

I think the day I shot this family was even colder and greyer than the last family shoot I did! I first met this family a few years ago when baby number two was just a little fella. And that time it was a scorcher of a day! The  shoot took quite some time, as I recall. The older boy really tested out all my skills with getting him to co-operate and have his photos taken. We spent a lot of time playing on the trampoline and in the cubby house! Still, that’s what makes us ’boutique’ photographers what we are, and different to your pixie photo booth set up in the shopping centre. We will spend some time just hanging out with you and your kids until everyone’s ready to play along, and we’ll put in the extra effort to try to capture you and your family how you are, and not offer you a mass produced product. Ah, sorry. I digress.

It was a lovely surprise to have a phone call a couple of weeks ago from L to say that she was just home from hospital with baby number three, and could I fit in a photo shoot? Actually, this little bub was a bit of a surprise for L and husband, too. They thought they were done with having babies with their two boys. And now they’re surrounded by pink, pink and more pink:

Acutally, I quite like that image in b&w:

It’s tiring work being a ballerina when you’re only two weeks old:

And finally asleep…

Here are the boys:

I hope you like this little sneak peek, L & M. I’ll be in touch soon to arrange a proofing session. Love, Jen.
