BFF sessions {a call for models}

From your side of the firewall, it might look like things have been pretty quiet here at vividity. Well…. I must admit, I have been enjoying a slightly slower pace in my ‘baby’ boy’s last year before school. It hasn’t all been paper aeroplanes and lego, though! I’ve been beavering away on behind the scenes kind of stuff, getting ready for things to take off in my Sydney-based portrait photography business once my boy is settled into school next year.

One thing I have done is revamp my product range. I’ve improved and simplified, making things much better, tighter, more cohesive. One new “product” I’m considering is a “bestie session”, and I’d love some feedback on it. To that end, I’m calling for models. Here’s what I’ve got in mind:

BFF Session:

  • up to 4 friends for a photo session where we would get group photos and individual portraits
  • 20 gift prints to share between you
  • 8 mini concertina albums (all the same design). That’s two for each of you, one to keep and one to give away to your grandparents, your boy/girlfriend, your mum…. whoever you like, really.
  • 20% off any additional purchases.

That’s over $1800 value, but I would only charge $1000…. so across four of you, that’s only $250 each! And for the first group of BFFs to book in, I’ll do it for half that again ($500), only $125 each assuming there are four of you. Now there’s a bargain!

It’s first come first served, so phone your friends, and then one of you phone me lickety-split to organise your session. (Click “contact me” at the top of the blog for my phone number.)

These sessions suit BFFs of any age. You might be as young and gorgeous as these guys:

Or as grown up and beautiful as these:

Or you might be in your retirement!

And…. a little treat for those of you who have read this far…. I’ll let you in on why I think a bestie session is a good idea: Here’s one of the best photos I have of me and my three best friends together. I’m the one second from the left, with baby number two almost ready to be born.

Not the best image, is it? Wish I could do it over with a professional!

These look pretty good…

Has anyone found the perfect camera bag? Don’t think I have yet. They can be great for protecting gear, but too bulky and difficult to manage. Or just plain ugly. Sometimes they’re pretty, but not great at protecting your gear. Or great to carry while you shoot, but not big enough to hold everything you need to carry…. (which is a lot more than just camera gear!). Could this be the answer?Tote & Shoot image

It’s the “Tote and Shoot” from shootsac. Check ’em out if you’re in the market for a new camera bag…. or perhaps looking for a Christmas gift for the photographer in your life. (Hint, hint!) Though I reckon you’d probably need to own a shootsac to put inside one of these babies, just to make sure your gear was really protected properly. (I must admit, my current camera bag certainly gives GREAT protection for my camera gear…. and in the end, that’s more important than the look of the bag. Way more. $$$$ more, really!)

Love,

Jen.

Cute little cubeo

Two of these arrived in the post yesterday for my kids. They come from a little business in Western Australia called Organise Easy. I bought them as a kind of back to school treat. Can’t remember how I found out about them, but something about them came across my ‘virtual desk’ a while back. Probably from someone’s blog somewhere. So, thank you Someone, whoever you are!

These little cuties are great! You customise them for each day of the week with the re-usable stickers,

…put them on your child’s bag and — hey presto! — getting ready for school in the morning is suddenly fun!

Miss Vividity got ready for school in record time today. Let’s see if this cute little organisation tool means she gets ready for school on time every day. (Am I chasing a pipe dream?)

love, Jen.

Oh. P.S.: All images in this post are from Organise Easy, and are used with permission.

Look at these!

Check out these great camera bags. Aren’t they gorgeous? And so practical! And they don’t scream, “Thousands of dollars of camera gear inside. Please steal me!”

Nice enough to carry even when you’re not carrying your camera, these are just the thing for the photographer who wants form and functionality. And this little photographer just happens to have a birthday coming up……. Though this little photographer’s darling husband did give her a really sturdy, functional and long-lasting camera bag for her birthday last year, for which she is extremely grateful.

These ones are from Jo Totes. Images from there, too, and used with permission. I found the Jo Totes site through the MCP Actions Blog. (Link under the ‘resources’ heading to the right.)

What a cool idea! {How to display photos}

Check out this way of displaying photos:

Or if you want to get a little bit fancy:

They’re vinyl wall decals! Aren’t they cool? You can get them from Simple Shapes on Etsy. (All images in this post from Simple Shapes.)

Now, as a photographer, I think this is a really really bad idea, because you should be buying great big canvas prints and framed custom artwork. From me, of course! But aren’t these a great idea if you’re renting, or just want to have a changing display of family snaps in your kids’ rooms, or if you live in a student dorm or somewhere like that where you’re not allowed to actually put hooks in the walls? They’d make a great present for a teenage child who’s moving out of home to start uni or something, don’t you think?

And I’m quite taken with this idea, too: A dry erase wall decal!

But could you just imagine trying to teach the three-year-old that it’s OK to write on this bit of wall, but not that bit of wall over there? Aaaaagh!

Is it selfish to have a wishlist?

Well, it probably is selfish to have a wish list. And I’m going to start one anyway. It’s really just a way to¬† help out my husband/kids/brothers/friends when it comes time for birthday or Christmas gift-buying. I’m thoughtful like that.

So, to kick it off, here’s a photo of a beautiful vintage Yashica camera I found on etsy at callrw’s shop. Isn’t it just gorgeous? I’d love to display it at home, and wouldn’t it make a great prop?

(Images from callrw’s shop.)

There are loads of beautiful vintage cameras to be found on etsy, and no doubt on ebay and other online shopping sites, too. I mentioned this one to Mr Vividity, and he placed a call to his folks. As it turns out, they have half a dozen or so vintage cameras tucked away in their cupboards. Veritable treasure trove, their place! Looks like I might have picked a starting wish that’s easily granted!
